Pompeo Adds Vietnam Visit During Asia Tour
Expansion of Anti-China Alliance Amid South Korea Passing Controversy
[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Mike Pompeo, U.S. Secretary of State, who is on a tour of Asia, has decided to visit Vietnam.
The State Department announced on the 28th (local time) that Secretary Pompeo will visit Vietnam following his visits to India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Indonesia. Vietnam has been added to the existing tour schedule.
The State Department stated that Secretary Pompeo will reaffirm the comprehensive partnership between the U.S. and Vietnam and convey America's commitment to a peaceful and prosperous region.
The Vietnamese government also announced that Secretary Pompeo will make an official two-day visit on the 29th to commemorate the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Secretary Pompeo's Asia tour has been interpreted as a move to confirm regional solidarity against China.

Meanwhile, after canceling his scheduled visit to South Korea earlier this month, Secretary Pompeo did not include South Korea in this Asia tour, sparking controversy over 'Korea passing.'
