'33,000 Daily Cases' France Approaches Lockdown Measures
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] France, facing an almost uncontrollable situation with the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increasing by more than 33,000 in a single day, is finally entering a lockdown.
President Emmanuel Macron confirmed this at the National Security Council on the morning of the 28th (local time) and will announce the details in a televised national address at 8 p.m. that day.
BFM and other broadcasters reported that the lockdown, which will be imposed nationwide for four weeks, will begin immediately at midnight on the 29th. However, unlike the lockdown in April, kindergartens and elementary schools will remain open. Public services will also be maintained, and remote work will be strongly encouraged for workplaces.
