The Excellent Afforestation Site evaluation, implemented by the Korea Forest Service since 2019, targets broadleaf afforestation sites with an area of 3 hectares or more.
In early July, Hamyang-gun identified candidate sites, and after the first evaluation by the Gyeongsangnam-do Forest and Greenery Division, Hamyang-gun was submitted to the Korea Forest Service. Last month, in the document review, four local governments and three regional offices were selected as final candidates. Then, on the 24th, after on-site evaluations by the Korea Forest Service and external experts, five institutions nationwide, including Hamyang-gun, were finally selected. Hamyang-gun was chosen as the best institution among local governments this year.
The excellent afforestation site model discovered by Hamyang-gun is located at San 76-1, Nanpyeong-ri, Hamyang-eup, where 15,000 white lily trees were planted on 5 hectares in 2008. Aiming for a forest with good forest functions and productivity, a beautiful forest was created through successful afforestation and systematic post-management of the afforestation site.
The adjacent 3-hectare Gorosoe afforestation site also formed a successful collective afforestation site, which greatly contributed to the excellent institution selection. Hamyang-gun, selected as an excellent institution for the excellent afforestation site, is expected to receive incentives such as commendations and prize money.
