POSCO Engineering & Construction Holds Award Ceremony for 'Steel Art Contest' Targeting Small Business Owners in Mullae-dong
[Asia Economy Reporter Inho Yoo] POSCO Engineering & Construction held an awards ceremony for the 'Steel Art Contest' for small metal workshop artisans in Mullae-dong at The Sharp Gallery in Sinsa-dong, Seoul on the 28th.
The Steel Art Contest was held to provide new growth opportunities to the small artisans of Mullae-dong, who played a significant role in Korea's industrial development in the 70s and 80s but have been declining due to industrialization, and to seek a healthy coexistence ecosystem between large corporations and self-employed workers.
From the 8th of last month to the 23rd of this month, the contest was conducted in collaboration with the Seoul Small Business Association and the Urban Regeneration Support Centers in Yeongdeungpo and Gyeongin-ro areas, with 11 teams participating.
The Grand Prize went to 'Swallow Bringing Fortune,' while Excellence Awards were given to 'The Sharp# Forest,' 'echo of circle,' and 'the giving tree.' The Grand Prize winner received a prize of 7 million KRW, and each Excellence Award winner received 6 million KRW.
The winning works will be exhibited on the first floor of The Sharp Gallery until the 31st. After the exhibition, the artworks will be installed in the community facility lobbies of The Sharp Skytower in Incheon, The Sharp Central City near Osan University Station, and The Sharp First Park Apartments in Cheongju.
The Grand Prize-winning piece, Swallow Bringing Fortune, represents POSCO Engineering & Construction’s apartment brand The Sharp, which aims to improve the quality of life. Just as the swallow, known as a good omen, brought a gourd seed to Heungbu, this artwork symbolizes POSCO Engineering & Construction bringing fortune to those living in the sturdy homes it builds.
The work was created by Yoon Seong-ho, who has been continuing his father's business at Geosan Sculpture in Mullae-dong, mainly producing industrial Unit Boxes and large sculptures for 15 years, in a team with illustrators Lim Soo-min and Lim Young-hoon.
