KOICA Provides $20,000 Emergency Supplies to Central Vietnam Flood Victims
Cooperation with KOICA Vietnam Women's Union Trainee Alumni Association
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA announced on the 27th that it provided emergency relief supplies worth $20,000 to support vulnerable groups suffering from the spread of flood damage in central Vietnam, together with the KOICA Alumni Association within the Vietnam Women's Union on the 26th.
Vietnam has been experiencing severe damage due to floods and landslides in the central region caused by Typhoon Linfa (No. 15) and Typhoon Nangka (No. 16). So far, there have been 114 deaths, 22 missing persons, 889 injured, and over 900,000 displaced people. Approximately 427,000 households have been flooded, and more than 5 million people have evacuated. Military units engaged in flood recovery have been buried by landslides, and with the approach of Typhoon Saudel (No. 17), the number of casualties and the scale of damage are expected to increase further.
In response, KOICA, together with the KOICA Trainee Alumni Association of the Vietnam Women's Union, has begun providing emergency relief supplies to the areas with the highest flood damage in the central region. Vulnerable women, people with disabilities, children, and the elderly in the hardest-hit provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai will receive temporary shelters, hygiene products, rescue equipment, and relief food worth $20,000 (USD).
Through this, KOICA plans to minimize the scale of flood damage in central Vietnam and strengthen the spirit of international solidarity through flood recovery efforts. Currently, international organizations and donor agencies such as UNDP, UNICEF, WHO, USAID, and JICA are actively supporting flood recovery in central Vietnam.
