Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Selected as an Excellent Institution in the '2020 Private School Institution Operation Evaluation'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 26th that 14 outstanding private school foundations, including Jukhohakwon (Geumho High School and 3 others), were selected as excellent school foundations in the '2020 Private School Institution Operation Evaluation'.
The selected school foundations will receive differentiated support funds (awards) ranging from 5 million to 35 million KRW.
The private school institution operation evaluation is conducted to create an atmosphere of self-effort among private school institutions to enhance accountability and democracy, improve poor management structures, and provide an opportunity to promote the sound development of private schools.
The Office of Education conducted an evaluation based on 25 indicators in three areas: foundation operation, school operation, and school finance, targeting 31 school foundations and 63 private schools during the one-year period from March 1 last year to February 29 this year.
The top private school foundations were Jukhohakwon and Sunguihakwon, excellent were Mandaehakwon and Bomunhaksuk, and encouraging were Sungilhakwon, Muyangseowon, and Cheongsonghakwon, totaling 7 foundations.
For private schools, the top awards went to Jukhohakwon (Geumho High School and 3 others), Sunguihakwon (Sungui Middle School and 1 other), and Mandaehakwon (Gwangdeok High School and 1 other). Excellent awards went to Sungilhakwon (Sungil High School and 1 other), Muyangseowon (Bia Middle School), Honam Christian Academy (Sufia Girls' High School and 1 other), Bomunhaksuk (Bomun High School), and Jeonggwanghakwon (Jeonggwang High School and 1 other). Encouraging awards were given to Chosun University (Chodaebu High School and 3 others), Salesiohoe (Salesio High School and 1 other), Seoksanhakwon (Seoksan High School), Salesio Sisters Academy (Salesio Girls' High School and 1 other), and Seolwolhakwon (Seolwol Girls' High School and 1 other), totaling 13 schools.
In particular, Jukhohakwon, which was selected as the top institution for the second time following 2018, received high scores for transparent and fair new teacher recruitment through teacher consignment hiring, open recruitment of office staff, compliance with the obligation to employ disabled persons, and 100% payment of statutory charges, demonstrating a model for private schools in the region.

Hyun Seokryong, Director of Policy Planning at the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “In the future, we plan to secure the effectiveness of the evaluation by reflecting major education office policies in the 'Private School Institution Operation Evaluation' criteria, and to strengthen the public nature of private school institutions by utilizing the evaluation results to enhance responsible management and induce self-efforts.”
