Victoria, Australia Reports Zero New COVID-19 Cases After Four Months
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Victoria, a state in southeastern Australia under a level 4 lockdown due to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), recorded zero new daily cases for the first time in four months.
According to the Australian daily The Australian on the 26th, the Victoria Department of Health announced that there were zero new COVID-19 cases and deaths in the past 24 hours.
This is the first time since June 6 that no new cases have been reported in Victoria.
Additionally, the daily average number of cases in Melbourne over the past 14 days decreased from 4.6 to 3.6.
Accordingly, the strict lockdown measures, including the curfew imposed on Greater Melbourne, are expected to be lifted soon.
Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews stated at a press conference the day before that the decision to ease restrictions in northern Melbourne, where 39 cases had previously been reported, would be made based on the results of focused testing.
It was reported that the COVID-19 tests conducted on about 2,000 residents in this area revealed no positive cases.
Zeroan Weimar, Victoria's head of virus testing, said, "A 100% negative result is the best outcome we wanted."
