[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Ruling party lawmakers belonging to the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee demanded an apology from Park Seong-jung, a member of the People Power Party, who repeatedly used abusive language at the Broadcasting and Communications Commission's national audit.
On the 26th, lawmakers from the Democratic Party of Korea on the Science and Technology Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee urged Park to apologize and promise to prevent recurrence for his use of profanity, abusive language, and violent behavior against the committee chairman during the comprehensive audit of the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission and the Broadcasting and Communications Commission on the night of the 23rd. Eleven committee members participated in the statement, including Kim Sang-hee, Byun Jae-il, Woo Sang-ho, Yoon Young-chan, Lee Yong-bin, Jeon Hye-sook, Jeong Pil-mo, Jo Seung-rae, Jo Jeong-sik, Han Jun-ho, and Hong Jeong-min.
They stated, "Park showed behavior below common sense by uttering abusive language and insults such as ‘nai-eorin saekki’ (young brat) and ‘han dae chyeobolkka’ (shall I hit you once) to the committee chairman representing the standing committee at the audit," adding, "He also repeatedly threatened to assault the chairman by raising his fist, which is an absolutely unacceptable act for a member of the National Assembly."
Ruling party lawmakers on the committee said, "The National Assembly must no longer display such disgraceful verbal misconduct. The chairman of the standing committee is a position elected in the plenary session based on expertise and experience, not appointed by age," and asserted, "Park Seong-jung and the People Power Party leadership must apologize to the public and take responsibility for the damage to the National Assembly's honor."
