Jeonnam Fire Department's 'Return of Spontaneous Circulation Rate' for Cardiac Arrest Patients Increases Every Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The 'spontaneous circulation recovery rate' of cardiac arrest patients managed by the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters has been rapidly improving every year.
According to Jeonnam Fire on the 25th, the recovery rate of cardiac arrest patients increased annually from 3.2% in 2016 to 5.2% in 2017, 6.7% in 2018, and 8.4% last year.
Recently, the average annual growth rate in the Jeonnam region was 38%, showing the steepest increase in survival rates nationwide.
Considering the characteristics of the Jeonnam region, where the proportion of elderly patients is high and geographical conditions such as mountainous and island areas are more challenging than other regions, this is a notably remarkable achievement.
The spontaneous circulation recovery rate refers to the rate at which firefighters performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during the transport of patients who suffered cardiac arrest due to illness to the hospital restore the patient's pulse.
Jeonnam Fire has significantly increased the number of emergency medical technicians and specialized paramedics to raise the three-person occupancy rate in ambulances.
Additionally, they have deployed extra ambulances in rural fishing and farming areas, which are emergency medical blind spots, and trained ambulance instructors to strengthen the professional education of ambulance teams, making efforts to protect the lives of residents.
