US COVID-19 New Cases Exceed 80,000 for Two Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] The number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States exceeded 80,000 for two consecutive days.
According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, on the 24th (local time), the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. was 83,718, surpassing 80,000 for the second day in a row following 83,757 cases the previous day.
The previous day's case count was the highest ever recorded in the U.S. The previous record was 77,362 cases on July 16.
The U.S. remains the country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, with a cumulative total of 8.6 million cases and approximately 225,000 deaths.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington projected that if the COVID-19 trend does not subside, the cumulative death toll in the U.S. could reach 318,000 by January next year.
