MFDS "Intensive Inspection of Organic and Pesticide-Free Agricultural Products with False Labels"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recently announced that due to the surge in food purchases on online shopping malls caused by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), from the 26th to the 30th of this month, it will conduct focused collection and inspection of agricultural and marine products sold online in cooperation with 17 metropolitan cities and provinces.
The inspection targets approximately 300 items sold on about 20 major online shopping malls frequently used by consumers, including ▲agricultural products labeled ‘organic’ or ‘pesticide-free,’ ▲marine products labeled ‘organic food,’ ‘antibiotic-free,’ or ‘quality certified,’ and ▲marine products frequently purchased by consumers.
The collected products will be tested for residual pesticides, heavy metals, veterinary drugs, food additives, and other substances to verify the safety of agricultural and marine products. The inspection results will be used to determine whether the products meet certification standards.
Companies found violating certification standards through this collection and inspection will face administrative sanctions and criminal charges in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
