[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] 'Iron Woman' Choi Woon-jung (30, Volvik, photo) is sailing smoothly.
On the 24th (Korean time), at the Great Waters Golf Club in Greensboro, Georgia, USA (par 72, 6,852 yards), during the second day of the LPGA Tour Drive On Championship - Reynolds Lake Oconee (total prize money $1.3 million), she reduced 3 strokes to tie for 8th place (6 under par 138). Ally McDonald leads (10 under par 134), with Danielle Kang (both USA) and Bianca Pagdanganan (Philippines) tied for 2nd place (9 under par 135), and Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand) in 4th place (8 under par 136).
Choi Woon-jung started from a tie for 9th place, 4 strokes behind, and made 4 birdies (1 bogey). She made her first birdie at the 2nd hole (par 5), followed by consecutive birdies at the 4th and 5th holes, creating momentum. However, in the back nine, she only managed to recover a bogey at the 11th hole (par 4) with a birdie at the 14th hole (par 3). She missed the fairway only once and recorded 28 putts. She is still 4 strokes behind the leader, with a chance to claim the top spot for the first time in 5 years and 3 months since her first victory at the Marathon Classic in July 2015.
McDonald shot 4 under par to dominate the top of the leaderboard. Although she debuted in 2016, she has yet to win a tournament. Rookie Pagdanganan joined the competition for the win with a powerful long drive averaging 295 yards. Danielle Kang, who was co-leader with Jennifer Song (USA) the previous day, took a breather with 2 under par. Mel Reid (England), Pernilla Lindberg (Sweden), and Katherine Kirk (Australia) are tied for 5th place (7 under par 137).
