President Moon and Democratic Party Approval Ratings Both Decline [Gallup]
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A poll revealed that the approval ratings of President Moon Jae-in and the Democratic Party of Korea have both declined.
Korea Gallup announced on the 23rd that in a survey conducted from the 20th to the 22nd among 1,001 adults aged 18 and over regarding President Moon's job performance, 43% of respondents gave a positive evaluation. This is a 4 percentage point drop compared to the previous week. On the other hand, negative evaluations rose by 3 percentage points to 45%.
The positive and negative rates by age group were 35% and 44% for ages 18-29 (hereafter '20s'), 51% and 36% for 30s, 56% and 37% for 40s, 45% and 45% for 50s, and 34% and 55% for those aged 60 and above.
By party support, 84% of Democratic Party supporters evaluated the president's job performance positively, while 89% of People Power Party supporters evaluated it negatively. Among the non-partisan group, negative ratings also led (positive 23%, negative 54%).
The main reason for positive evaluations was 'COVID-19 response' at 32%, followed by 'Overall good performance' (6%), 'Doing their best / working hard' (5%), and 'Expansion of welfare' (5%).
For negative evaluations, the most cited reason was 'Real estate policy' (14%), followed by 'Lack of solutions to economic and livelihood issues' (11%), and 'Overall inadequacy' (9%).
Party support ratings showed the Democratic Party at 35%, down 3 percentage points from the previous week. This is the lowest figure since the second week of August (33%), when support plummeted due to controversies over real estate policies.
It is interpreted that the Lime and Optimus scandals, the exercise of investigative authority by Justice Minister Lee Choo-mi-ae, and the announcement of the audit results on the Wolseong Unit 1 nuclear reactor by the Board of Audit and Inspection influenced this decline.
The People Power Party's support rate fell by 1 percentage point to 17%, followed by the Justice Party at 6%, the Open Democratic Party at 4%, and the People's Party at 3%.
