North Korea has released its first full-length novel focusing on the "achievements" of Chairman Kim Jong-un, stepping up efforts to glorify the supreme leader.
The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea, introduced on the 23rd that "recently, the 4·15 Literary Creation Group has published the first full-length novel 'Revival' from the series 'Immortal Journey,' which broadly and deeply portrays the greatness of the Marshal (Kim Jong-un)."
The 4·15 Literary Creation Group, established in 1967, is a literary creation organization specializing in so-called "leader-portrait literature," focusing on the achievements of supreme leaders such as Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.
Following the publication of the series 'Immortal History,' which covers the activities of President Kim Il-sung, and the series 'Immortal Guide,' centered on National Defense Commission Chairman Kim Jong-il, they have now released the series 'Immortal Journey,' focusing on Chairman Kim Jong-un. The publication of the first full-length novel about Chairman Kim is interpreted as an effort to emphasize his legitimacy and position.
North Korea is also seen as trying to strengthen internal unity by highlighting Kim Jong-un's activities despite difficult circumstances such as international sanctions, the COVID-19 pandemic, and flood damage.
The novel 'Revival' focuses on Kim Jong-un's efforts to strengthen educational projects for nurturing talent.
The novel lists Kim Jong-un's determination to cultivate talent along with his past initiatives, including the transition to 12 years of compulsory education, the creation of a Future Scientists' Street for university professors, the construction of the Pyongyang Orphanage, and the distribution of school uniforms and learning materials. The newspaper emphasized that "the Marshal's (educational revolution) achievements are movingly portrayed through real historical facts."
It also explained that the novel "reflects the spirit of the era, which reveals the idea that the inexhaustible and powerful force for national revival lies in human resources, and that by establishing a social atmosphere that values education and continuously developing education to meet the demands of the new century, we can confidently lead the world."
Meanwhile, Chairman Kim Jong-un, who studied abroad in Switzerland during his childhood, reformed the existing 11-year compulsory education system into a 12-year system in his first year in power in 2012, separating middle school (lower secondary school) and high school (upper secondary school), and has been continuously improving the education system, methods, and content in line with global trends, striving to make education and science and technology the driving forces of economic growth.
