At the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters (CDSCH) meeting on COVID-19 held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Prime Minister Chung stated, "Cases of death occurring after receiving flu vaccines, especially among the elderly, continue to be reported."
He added, "Issues that fall within the realm of science should be trusted and followed based on expert judgment," and urged, "The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency should closely consult with experts in this field to ensure that the public can receive vaccinations with confidence, and do their best to provide sufficient measures and prompt explanations."
Prime Minister Chung expressed concern, saying, "The number of newly confirmed domestic COVID-19 cases recorded triple digits again yesterday and today. Despite efforts to enter a stable phase, unsettling signs are reappearing," and noted, "Cluster infections continue in medical institutions and nursing facilities, and considering that comprehensive testing is underway in nursing hospitals in the metropolitan area, the number of confirmed cases may increase further."
He continued, "The delicate balance between quarantine measures and daily life, which is being maintained cautiously like walking on thin ice, is facing a major challenge," and emphasized, "The government will work with local governments to thoroughly inspect quarantine conditions on the ground and make every effort to block the chronic occurrence of cluster infections."
Prime Minister Chung also expressed worry, stating, "Halloween, which has been popular among young people for several years, is just a week away and is emerging as a new risk factor for infection spread," and added, "The desire for activity among young people, suppressed by prolonged social distancing, may explosively increase by taking advantage of their relaxed vigilance."
He warned, "There is a very high risk that Halloween events could cause a 'second club incident,'" and urged, "Young people should refrain from visiting crowded places such as clubs, and if they do visit, they must strictly follow quarantine rules such as wearing masks."
Furthermore, he instructed, "Quarantine authorities and local governments should take necessary preemptive quarantine measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during Halloween events."
