A Memorial Ceremony Honoring 6.25 War Hero "Second Lieutenant Jo Dal-jin" from Juam-myeon
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City held a memorial ceremony for Second Lieutenant Jodal-jin, a hero of the Korean War known as the "Phoenix that Killed Tanks," in front of the Jodal-jin bust park in Juam-myeon the day before, to remember and honor his military achievements.
The memorial ceremony was held in compliance with the Level 1 social distancing quarantine guidelines for COVID-19, with about 100 attendees including Korean War veterans and their families, clan members, members of the Jodal-jin Memorial Association, and soldiers from the Jodal-jin Battalion (Army Unit 7391, 5th Battalion).
Through paying respects and laying flowers in front of the Jodal-jin bust, memorial speeches, and poetry readings, participants had a meaningful time to remember and emulate the bold determination and spirit of Second Lieutenant Jodal-jin, who, as a private first class, bravely jumped onto enemy tanks and threw grenades.
An Kyung, chairman of the Jodal-jin Second Lieutenant Memorial Association, which prepared the memorial ceremony, said, "Let us remember the noble sacrifice of Second Lieutenant Jodal-jin, who did not hesitate to give his life to save the country," adding, "Our precious daily lives today are possible because of the sacrifices of veterans and their hopes for peace."
