Recruitment of 33,080 Tenants for Public Housing Nationwide from November to December
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 21st that it will recruit residents for a total of 33,080 housing units across 68 public housing sites nationwide from November to December.
Public rental housing, including publicly supported private rentals, will recruit residents for a total of 16,701 units across 45 sites nationwide. Among these, the Seoul metropolitan area accounts for 13,414 units across 32 sites.
This includes rental-type newlywed hope towns equipped with various childcare facilities, such as Seoul Suseo (December, 199 units), and Seoul Yangwon (November, 100 permanent rental units and 192 national rental units), which is a mix of permanent and national rental housing.
In the provinces, residents will be recruited for 3,287 units across 13 sites. These include Daejeon Doan (December, 360 units), a happiness housing specialized for newlyweds, Sejong Administrative City Complex 3-3M2 (December, 1,100 units), and Ulsan Sinjeong (December, 100 units).
For public sale housing, residents will be sought for 16,379 units across 23 sites nationwide.
The Seoul metropolitan area accounts for 13,787 units across 18 sites. Sale-type newlywed hope towns include Wirye A2-6 (December, 294 units), Gwacheon Knowledge Information Town (December, 645 units), Seongnam Daejang (December, 707 units), and Goyang Jichuk (December, 386 units), totaling 6,454 units across 13 sites.
In November, there is Incheon Yongmaru (2,277 units), and in December, Yangju Okjeong (2,049 units) and Uijeongbu Gosan (1,331 units) are available.
In the provinces, residents will be recruited for 2,592 units across 5 sites.
These include sale-type newlywed hope towns such as Asan Tangjeong (December, 340 units) and Changwon Myeonggok (December, 263 units), as well as post-sale complexes like Gyeryong Daesil 2 (December, 600 units) and Administrative City 6-3M2 (December, 995 units).
Public housing operators will also recruit residents for more than 17,000 units of purchase and jeonse rental housing, which involves purchasing or leasing private housing to supply at affordable prices, from November to December.
Purchase rental housing will recruit residents for 5,010 units nationwide, including 2,494 units in the Seoul metropolitan area, while jeonse rental housing will continue to recruit newlywed-type units totaling 4,313 units nationwide on an ongoing basis.
Those wishing to apply for public sale housing are advised to check whether the applicant and their household meet the requirements for the 'First-Time Special Supply.'
This is because the amended 'Public Housing Special Act Enforcement Rules,' which came into effect on the 29th of last month to expand homeownership opportunities for genuine non-homeowners, increased the first-time special supply quota from 20% to 25%.
Accordingly, in the case of Daejeon Gapcheon 1, which announced resident recruitment on the 7th, 279 units, or 25% of the total 1,116 households, were allocated as first-time special supply units.
Applicants for newlywed hope towns or public rental housing should check the recently expanded criteria for newlywed couples.
According to the Public Housing Special Act Enforcement Rules, effective from the 3rd of last month, couples with children aged six or under, including unborn children, are now recognized as newlywed couples.

Kim Jeonghee, Director of Housing Welfare Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, explained, "With the full implementation of the expanded first-time special supply, we plan to support more genuine non-homeowners in securing homes by relaxing income requirements for newlywed hope towns, newlywed special supply, and first-time special supply until January next year."
