Geumcheon-gu Holds Rice Harvesting Event at Anyangcheon Ecological Rice Paddy with Daycare Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) held an "Autumn Harvest Rice Cutting" event at the Anyangcheon Ecological Rice Paddy from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the 20th.
About 100 children from local daycare centers participated in the event, engaging in activities such as "rice cutting and threshing," "twisting straw ropes," and "making herb soap."
On this day, the children experienced firsthand the process of rice production, the staple food of Korea, by cutting rice with sickles in the traditional way, and threshing rice grains using a flail and threshing machine.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "I hope this autumn harvest event provided children, whose opportunities for field experiences have decreased due to COVID-19, a chance to experience rural life within the city and realize the importance of agriculture."
