[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] An octogenarian who was charged with attempting to set fire to a building gifted to his daughter was sentenced to a suspended prison term by the court.
According to the legal community on the 20th, the Criminal Division 2 of Changwon District Court (Chief Judge Jeonghyun Lee) sentenced A (80), who was tried for attempted arson of an existing structure, to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year suspension. The court stated, "The defendant attempted arson in a building with unspecified guests, causing a risk of harm to life or property," but added, "Considering that the fire was quickly extinguished and no significant damage occurred, the sentence is determined accordingly."
