Dr. Bronner's Launches 'All-One Initiative' International Project
1% Profit Returned to Animal Welfare and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Dr. Bronner's, a U.S. organic cosmetics brand with 162 years of tradition, will launch the 'All-One Initiative' international project in South Korea by the end of this year.
'All-One' is Dr. Bronner's brand philosophy, meaning that we are all one regardless of religion or race, and that humans, animals, and the Earth's environment must coexist.
The All-One Initiative was planned to localize the common goal set by the brand, 'fighting and supporting what is right,' across Dr. Bronner's global branches and distributors.
This is carried out through commitments with local partners in each country to support local organizations leading the brand's core mission that drives positive social change: 'social justice,' 'animal welfare,' and 'environmental protection.'
Dr. Bronner's is a global brand generating an average of 20% of its annual sales from overseas markets, donating about 6% of its sales (approximately 8.5 billion KRW) annually to various fields worldwide. The All-One Initiative is a strategy to return 1% of export revenue to local communities in 12 countries, including South Korea, out of the total 42 export countries where the company operates. It successfully launched last year in Germany and the United Kingdom.
Following the philosophy of founder Emmanuel Bronner, Dr. Bronner's shares the common goal of fighting for and supporting the brand's core missions such as 'regenerative organic agriculture,' 'fair trade,' and 'animal welfare.'
Regenerative organic agriculture is a climate-friendly farming method that nourishes the soil by returning and storing atmospheric carbon dioxide, a major cause of global warming, back into the ground, thereby slowing the pace of global warming. As of 2019, the area of regenerative organic farming in Dr. Bronner's ingredient sourcing regions reached approximately 11,000 hectares (about 34 million pyeong), reducing about 16,000 metric tons of atmospheric carbon dioxide in 2018 alone.
Since 2005, Dr. Bronner's has practiced fair trade by providing fair wages and working conditions to farms and factories growing its raw materials. It has established a virtuous cycle by supplying the highest quality ingredients while offering organic fair trade partners?about 10,000 sister farms in raw material sourcing regions such as Palestine, Sri Lanka, and Ghana?wages well above local minimums and abundant welfare benefits.
