Living Dobong! Thriving Dobong! Reducing 1℃... Public and Private Sectors Gather to Discuss Action Plans for 'Climate Crisis Response'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dong-jin Lee) held a collaborative public forum on June 16 at the Dobong-gu Office to prepare measures for responding to the climate crisis.
This collaborative public forum was organized for Dobong-gu residents and public officials to come together and discuss actionable plans for 'responding to the climate crisis.'
The forum topics were selected as representative issues related to climate crisis mitigation and adaptation by analyzing residents' interests and discussion subjects through a preliminary survey.
Accordingly, three subtopics were chosen in the carbon reduction field and three in the adaptation field by demographic group, and a public discussion forum was held for these.
As social problems caused by the climate crisis have become public issues directly affecting residents, the themes of public-private, inter-agency, and citizen collaboration governance were selected due to the need for local interest and cooperation among various administrative departments.
Due to COVID-19, this collaborative public forum was designed to strengthen residents' capabilities by sharing climate crisis-related videos and materials in advance.
Additionally, thorough pre-disinfection measures were taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the event was conducted with fewer than 50 pre-registered participants in accordance with social distancing level 2 guidelines.
During the forum, various administrative measures being promoted to respond to the climate crisis were explained. Following this, residents and officials discussed ways to collaboratively implement actions within the community.
Since the event was held on a small scale, the results of the collaborative public forum will be shared later, and further resident participation will be encouraged through follow-up surveys and opinion collection procedures to listen to local residents' views and reflect them in district administration.
Until now, Dobong-gu was the first basic local government nationwide to enact the 'Dobong-gu Basic Ordinance for Activating Public-Private Collaboration Governance,' establishing an institutional foundation for sustainable collaboration governance.
In particular, Dobong-gu has taken much faster and more meaningful steps than other local governments, such as being the first autonomous district in Seoul to establish a community innovation plan.

Mayor Dong-jin Lee of Dobong-gu stated, “As we are promoting the ‘2050 Dobong-gu Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy’ to realize the Green New Deal and carbon emission zero, this collaborative public forum became a meaningful occasion to gather and empathize with diverse opinions from residents.” He added, “Since we have made collaboration a core value of district administration and have been making leading efforts, we will continue to listen attentively to various voices of residents through the activation of public forums.”
