This year, 153 students will be selected, including 78 high school students and 75 university students, with scholarships totaling 145 million KRW to be awarded: 500,000 KRW for high school students, 1 million KRW for junior college students, and 1.5 million KRW for university students.
The selection criteria for academic excellence scholarships require high school students to have at least half of their subjects in the first semester of 2020 graded within level 2, and university students to have a GPA of 3.7 or higher (3.5 for a 4.3 scale).
For low-income scholarships, households must have an average National Health Insurance premium payment in the first half of this year at or below 65% of the 2020 median income. High school students must have at least half of their subjects graded within level 5 in the first semester of 2020, and university students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher (2.8 for a 4.3 scale).
Specialty scholarships are for arts and sports fields, requiring recipients to have placed within the top 3 in international or national competitions within the past year as of the announcement date.
Special scholarships cover multicultural families, volunteer/good deeds/filial piety, North Korean defectors, persons with disabilities, families with multiple children, and out-of-school youth, with selection based on criteria specific to each category.
Applicants must be residents registered in Buk-gu for at least one year as of the announcement date or their children.
The application period is until the 30th of this month. Academic excellence and low-income scholarship applicants should apply at their local administrative welfare center, while specialty and special scholarship applicants should apply to the Buk-gu Scholarship Foundation.
Buk-gu will finalize scholarship recipients through a board review by next month and plans to award scholarship certificates in December.
