'Geupjeon→Jeollyeok Gonggeup' 'Jeonhwaryul→Jeongi Bogubryul'... Simplifying Difficult Electrical Terms
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) announced on the 16th that it is working to simplify difficult power-related terms used in the field so that the public can easily understand them.
Since May 2018, KEPCO has formed an internal task force (TF) to collect over 3,000 power-related terms.
With the review of the National Institute of the Korean Language and feedback from power industry-related associations, about 300 power terms were finally selected for simplification.
In the case of power terms, difficult Sino-Korean words and abbreviations were replaced with easier terms. Awkward foreign loanwords were modified according to proper orthographic rules.
Unnecessary foreign loanwords and Japanese-style expressions used in daily work are continuously being improved.
Additionally, KEPCO is conducting a 'Power Sector Simplified Terms Promotion Content Contest' targeting students enrolled (or on leave) in two-year or higher colleges (including graduate schools).
This is to promote the simplified power terms in an easier and more engaging way.
The contest categories are video and card news, and participation is possible through the KEPCO website until the 30th.
A KEPCO official said, "Going forward, KEPCO will continue to improve unfamiliar and difficult power terms so that the public can easily understand them."
