Operation of On-site Wednesday Civil Service Office by Seoul Jung-gu Mayor
Starting from the 7th in Jungnim-dong, Weekly Wednesday Neighborhood Tour 'On-site Civil Complaint Office' Operation
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seo Yang-ho, Mayor of Jung-gu, Seoul, visits neighborhoods every Wednesday to listen to the voices of residents.
Jung-gu (Mayor Seo Yang-ho) announced that starting from July 7th in Jungnim-dong, it has been operating the 'Mayor's Wednesday On-site Civil Service Office,' visiting each neighborhood every Wednesday.
Seo Yang-ho, known for walking to work every dawn and resolving on-site civil complaints in every alley, has decided to dedicate one day a week, Wednesday, to visit neighborhoods entirely and focus on directly observing residents' daily lives.
The morning session of the Wednesday On-site Civil Service Office is a time to exchange opinions with residents of the respective neighborhood regarding civil complaints or areas for improvement. Mayor Seo and related department officials listen to residents' opinions and work to unravel the root causes of the issues raised. The mayor, residents, and responsible officials put their heads together to discuss and resolve complaints. They also identify damages and hardships caused by COVID-19 and encourage participation in the 2021 Resident Proposal Projects, which form the foundation of the neighborhood government.
In the afternoon, they visit complaint sites or major living areas to listen carefully to residents' voices and check for inconveniences or areas needing improvement. The visit sites vary widely. They include nearby parks, green spaces, habitual illegal dumping sites identified through conversations with residents, construction sites, and locations targeted for resident-participation budget projects?any place where residents' voices can be heard.
On July 7th, at the Jungnim-dong Wednesday On-site Civil Service Office, after hearing complaints about habitual illegal dumping and the risk of accidents at bus turnaround points, they went to the site and directly discussed solutions with relevant personnel. On the 14th, in Sindang 5-dong, starting with the status of Muhakbong Neighborhood Park, they inspected sites planned for smart traffic lights and flashing traffic lights to be installed next year through the resident-participation budget. When visiting the area near Baekhak Shopping Center, they also reminded small business owners and self-employed individuals not to miss applying for the New Hope Fund.
A district official stated that the Wednesday On-site Civil Service Office was operated twice on July 7th in Jungnim-dong and on the 14th in Sindang 5-dong, and that the plan will continue sequentially by touring each neighborhood until mid-January next year. Although conducted on a small scale due to COVID-19, they added that channels for exchanging opinions with residents will be steadily activated through non-face-to-face methods as well.
