View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] In Florida, known as one of the key battlegrounds in the U.S. presidential election, the gap in support between President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has narrowed, showing an extremely close race.
On the 14th (local time), major foreign media, together with polling specialist Ipsos, conducted a survey of 1,000 Florida adults. The results showed that Biden had a support rate of 49%, which is 2 percentage points higher than President Trump's 47%.
This falls within the margin of error of ±4 percentage points for this survey, indicating a statistical tie.
In the same survey released on the 7th, Biden led by 4 percentage points. Although that was also within the margin of error, the gap has narrowed further in this latest survey.
President Trump won Florida in the 2016 presidential election by a margin of 1.2 percentage points.
Given that Florida's outcome has historically served as a barometer determining the overall result of U.S. presidential elections, both President Trump and candidate Biden are putting their utmost effort into securing Florida's votes.
President Trump, who had been grounded due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, chose Florida as his first campaign stop upon resuming election activities and rushed there on the 12th. Biden also visited Florida the following day.
Besides Florida, Biden leads President Trump in other battleground states such as Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Except for Michigan, the gap has slightly widened compared to the previous survey.
In Michigan, Biden recorded 51%, leading President Trump’s 43% by 8 percentage points, which is consistent with the previous survey.
In Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, Biden was surveyed at 51%, leading President Trump’s 44% by 7 percentage points in each state.
