Andong City Dreaming of Becoming a Bioindustry Hub with 'Hemp' Hosts 'Regulatory Sandbox Workshop'

View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Andong City, Gyeongbuk Province, will hold a workshop for related organizations on industrial hemp over one night and two days from the 15th to the 16th at the Andong Culture and Tourism Complex under the slogan "One Company Regulatory Free Zone."
Hosted by Andong City and organized by the Gyeongbuk Bio Industry Research Institute Foundation, this event was postponed once due to the resurgence of COVID-19 but was arranged following the government's easing of social distancing to Level 1.
Andong City plans to use this event as an opportunity to establish cooperative linkage measures among hemp free zone project operators while strengthening inspection activities related to the handling of narcotics.
Mayor Kwon Young-se of Andong said, "The passion and efforts of companies participating in the free zone project are the key to the success of the Gyeongbuk Industrial Hemp Regulatory Free Zone project," adding, "We will strive to become a green bio-industry hub, from agriculture to bio-industrialization."

Meanwhile, since Andong City was finally selected as the "Gyeongbuk Industrial Hemp Regulatory Free Zone" area last July, it has established a medical marijuana free zone team and has been strengthening cooperation systems with related organizations. With the designation of the Gyeongbuk Industrial Hemp Free Zone, a total of 5 areas including Imha-myeon and Pungsan-eup in Andong City and Gyeongsan City, covering 340,841 square meters, will receive concentrated investment of 45 billion KRW over two years from 2021 to 2022. Hemp refers to cannabis plants and their extracts containing less than 0.3% of the psychoactive component THC.
