[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) will provide emergency livelihood support funds of up to 1 million KRW to vulnerable households in the area whose income has decreased due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
This support is the government's second customized emergency livelihood support fund. Eligible households are those whose income has decreased by 25% or more due to COVID-19, whose total household income is 75% or less of the standard median income, and whose assets are 600 million KRW or less.
The 75% of the standard median income is 1,317,896 KRW for a single-person household, 2,243,985 KRW for a two-person household, 2,902,933 KRW for a three-person household, and 3,561,881 KRW for a four-person household.
The support amount per household is 400,000 KRW for a single-person household, 600,000 KRW for a two-person household, 800,000 KRW for a three-person household, and 1 million KRW for households of four or more. The support fund will be paid once in cash to the account applied for. However, recipients of existing welfare programs such as basic livelihood benefits or emergency livelihood benefits, and those eligible for emergency employment stabilization funds, small business new hope funds, closed store re-challenge encouragement funds, worker employment retention support funds, youth special employment support programs, and job-seeking allowance support are excluded from this support.
There are two ways to apply for the support fund: online and in-person visits. Online applications can be made from the 12th to the 30th of this month (including weekends) by the head of the household accessing the 'Bokjiro' website, completing identity verification and consent for personal information provision, and submitting evidence related to income reduction.
In-person applications can be made by visiting the local community service center in charge of the applicant's address from the 19th to the 30th (excluding weekends).
Both online and in-person applications operate according to a day-of-the-week system based on the last digit of the head of household's birth year: Monday for 1 and 6, Tuesday for 2 and 7, Wednesday for 3 and 8, Thursday for 4 and 9, and Friday for 5 and 0. For weekend online applications, only odd numbers can apply on Saturday and even numbers on Sunday.
Mapo-gu has formed a dedicated task force for emergency livelihood support for vulnerable households starting from the 12th to provide counseling and ensure prompt payment of support funds.
