Court Sentences Songpa-gu Office Official to Prison for Accepting Golf Clubs and Meals
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin] A district office public official who received bribes worth several million won, including golf clubs, from a supplier of materials needed for road maintenance projects was sentenced to imprisonment.
On the 13th, according to the legal community, Judge Park Jin-hwan of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 1 sentenced public official A (59), who was indicted on bribery charges, to 4 months in prison with a 2-year probation and a fine of 9 million won.
The court also ordered A to pay a confiscation amount of about 4.4 million won.
B (47), the CEO of a paving block manufacturing company who was also indicted for giving bribes to A, was fined 3 million won.
The court stated, "The duties of public officials, which are centered on fairness and integrity, must not be subject to bribery, and therefore the nature of the crime committed by the defendants in giving and receiving bribes in this case is very serious."

A, who worked as the head of the road department (grade 5) in Songpa-gu, Seoul, overseeing road construction-related tasks such as material selection, was tried on charges of receiving goods worth about 4.4 million won, including a set of golf clubs and meals, from B on eight occasions from July 2016 to May of the following year.
