Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Confirms Next Year's Living Wage at 10,520 Won
1.6% Increase Compared to This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 13th that the living wage for next year has been set at 10,520 KRW per hour, an increase of 1.6% compared to this year.
The living wage is a salary set considering the livelihood stability and cultural life of public sector workers.
Gwangsan-gu, which first introduced the living wage system in the Gwangju area in 2014, has been striving to guarantee better working conditions for workers by applying an appropriate increase rate every year.
The living wage for next year is 167 KRW higher than this year's living wage of 10,353 KRW, and it is 1,800 KRW more than next year's minimum wage of 8,720 KRW.
The district calculated this living wage by applying the 'Gwangju-type standard model,' which considers the minimum cost of living for a three-person household, household expenditures in the region, and price levels, and then finalized it through deliberation by the Gwangsan-gu Living Wage Committee.
The decided living wage will be applied from January 1 next year to workers directly employed by Gwangsan-gu or those belonging to private consignment institutions such as construction and service contracts.
According to the Labor Standards Act, if working 8 hours a day and 209 hours a month, a monthly salary of 2,198,680 KRW can be earned.
