Just Bring Your Phone, Bag, and Gloves... A Way to
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Are you familiar with 'Jupgging,' which takes care of both health and the environment?
Busan City (Acting Mayor Byun Seong-wan) is holding an 'Eco-friendly Non-face-to-face Jupgging Campaign' throughout October for citizens to participate in.
Jupgging is a newly coined term combining 'picking up trash' and 'jogging.' The Jupgging campaign is an eco-friendly initiative where participants pick up trash while jogging. It is a novel environmental movement that allows people to 'kill two birds with one stone' by exercising and protecting the environment simultaneously.
The '1st Non-face-to-face Jupgging Campaign' is a campaign Busan City is trying for the first time this year to remind people of the importance of environmental protection in daily life. This year, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it will be conducted non-face-to-face through personal social media (SNS).
The campaign is easy to join since all you need is a mobile phone, a trash bag, gloves, or tongs, and you can participate regardless of time or route.
Participants can practice Jupgging individually using a mobile phone application that measures distance until October 31, then upload a verification photo tagging Busan City's official Instagram on their social media (SNS) account. Among all participants, 50 selected individuals will receive prizes.
From September 29 to October 8, Busan City held an event distributing 'Jupgging packages' containing eco-friendly trash bags, safety gloves, masks, and more to the first 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event ended in 11 minutes, and so far, about 1,500 people have participated in the campaign, showing strong public response.

Byun Seong-wan, Acting Mayor of Busan, said, "Although the term Jupgging is still unfamiliar, the number of citizens voluntarily participating in environmental protection is rapidly increasing. As this is the first event held this year for environmental protection and health management, I hope people take an interest in the purpose of the event."
