Gwangju Dong-gu Supports Side Dish Provision for Elderly at Risk of Food Insecurity in the District
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 12th that it will launch a side dish support project for elderly people at risk of food insecurity.
Dong-gu plans to carry out the project targeting a total of 320 people, including 185 individuals recommended by each neighborhood and 135 recommended by senior customized care service agencies. This is based on the results of a comprehensive survey of elderly people living alone at risk of food insecurity conducted over two weeks starting July 15.
In addition, alternative meals will be provided to about 400 elderly people using senior centers who are at risk of food insecurity, 430 recipients of the Love Restaurant program, and 120 recipients of lunchbox support.

Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, “We conducted a comprehensive survey of elderly people at risk of food insecurity to proactively respond to the difficulties faced by elderly people living alone due to COVID-19,” adding, “Based on this survey, we will not only prevent food insecurity among the elderly but also establish various welfare policies to create a ‘Dong-gu type age-friendly city.’”
