This project involved the Materials Research Institute, the German Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (Fhg IKTS), and the Dresden University of Technology Lightweight Engineering Polymer Research Institute (TUD ILK). It is the first domestic international cooperation corporate support platform supported by the city, the German state of Saxony, and the city of Dresden, and has been actively promoted since the establishment of the ‘Han-German Materials R&D Center’ at the Materials Research Institute in September 2017.
Through this project, the city supports local companies in overcoming technical difficulties existing between R&D for securing necessary technologies and commercialization, and helps them adapt well to the paradigm shift in technology development and diversification of demand industries.
The project period is six years from 2017 to 2022, and the fourth-year project is being promoted this year. The specific agenda items include ▲ Bridging R&D support ▲ Fundamental technology R&D support ▲ Spinoff/Joint venture startup support ▲ Technology incubation support ▲ Technology exchange and cooperation.
According to the city, the satisfaction of participating companies with the project was very high. In particular, through entrusted research in Germany, companies secured necessary technologies that were difficult to resolve domestically, which accelerated product commercialization and improved productivity through cost reduction, proving to be very helpful in responding quickly to the global market.
The ‘Han-German Technology Exchange Meeting’ has received high responses, with about 10 companies participating annually, as it allows direct exchange and research requests on necessary technologies through expert and technical meetings held locally in Germany.
Through the review of the ‘Han-German Materials R&D Center Project,’ the city plans to do its best to support local companies facing difficulties due to international export regulations and the COVID-19 pandemic by improving and developing insufficient parts of the project implementation and addressing the challenges companies face.
