Gwangju Buk-gu Signs Business Agreement with Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation to Create ‘Green Road’
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced on the 12th that it has signed a business agreement for the ‘Green Road Expedition to Create Child-Safe Villages’ together with eight organizations including the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation Gwangju Child Advocacy Center (Director Oh Sookhee).
The ‘Green Road Expedition,’ selected in 2019 at Gwangju City’s ‘Citizen Policy Market,’ is a project aimed at creating child-friendly pedestrian paths to help prevent traffic accidents during school commutes.
The agreement also involved related traffic organizations and groups such as the Northern Police Station, Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Road Traffic Authority, TBN Gwangju Traffic Broadcasting, Yongju Elementary School, Yongju Elementary School Parents’ Association, Yongbong-dong Residents’ Autonomous Committee, and Yongbong Treasure Site.
The participating organizations and groups will carry out activities including ▲exchange of child traffic safety information and development of public-private cooperation models ▲establishment of a child traffic safety advocacy system ▲creation of a traffic safety environment and promotion to raise awareness.
Buk-gu plans to provide a safe walking environment by creating a Green Road painted with color matching the pedestrian width and installing traffic safety facilities on side roads without sidewalks near Yongju Elementary School’s school routes, with a total budget of 90 million won including 50 million won contributed by the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, by December.
