The ‘Geumcheon Citizen Award’ is given to residents and organizations who have shown exceptional passion and dedication to the development of the local community in five categories: ▲community service ▲public morals ▲education ▲culture ▲sports.
Previously, from August 6 to September 4, the district received candidate recommendations from various sectors. This year, as there were no recommendations in the culture category, after a strict review of 18 candidates across the remaining four categories, four individuals and one organization were finally selected as awardees.
In the community service category, residents Park Yang-hee and Yoo Yeon-soon were jointly selected; in the public morals category, ‘Jang Soon-yeon’; in the education category, resident ‘Jang Hee-joo’; and in the sports category, the ‘Geumcheon-gu Bowling Association’ were honored as recipients.
Park Yang-hee, selected as a community service awardee, is the president of the Salgu Women’s Association, and has led warm sharing through initiatives such as operating the ‘Salgu Warm Meal House’ and hosting the year-end event ‘Our Neighborhood United as Santa Village’ with multicultural families, playing a leading role in fostering harmony among local residents and village organizations.
Joint awardee Yoo Yeon-soon, active as a member of the district welfare council, was recognized for her contributions to local development by personally practicing neighborly love through various activities such as volunteering to share side dishes for low-income households, organizing birthday parties for elderly living alone, and sharing samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) on the hottest days of summer.
Jang Soon-yeon, selected in the public morals category, devotedly cared for her elderly mother with limited mobility, volunteered to serve free meals to seniors at Cheongdam Welfare Center, and provided companionship to dementia patients at Sarangchae Nursing Home, contributing to spreading a culture of respect for the elderly within the community.
Jang Hee-joo, the education category awardee, was recognized for her efforts to improve the educational environment for youth by operating the Mentor Regional Children’s Center, providing one-on-one mentoring classes and snack support programs such as ‘Let’s Eat Fruit’ for marginalized children and adolescents.
The Geumcheon-gu Bowling Association, selected in the sports category, has consistently practiced neighborly love by collecting encouragement funds at each tournament to provide scholarships to underprivileged groups and conducting briquette-sharing volunteer work for seniors during winter, contributing to community harmony and the promotion of recreational sports activities.
The award ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. on the 15th at Geumnarae Art Hall as part of the ‘25th Geumcheon Citizen’s Day’ commemorative event, conducted as a non-face-to-face event without an audience.
Meanwhile, the ‘Geumcheon Citizen Award’ is an honor given since 1996 to individuals who serve as role models for residents through dedicated efforts in various social fields, with 116 recipients honored up to the 24th ceremony last year.
