Collaboration on POSCO E&C Steel Art Design Contest for Small Metal Manufacturing Businesses in Mullae-dong... Metalworkers and Artists Team Up to Create Metal Sculptures; Selected Works Installed at POSCO E&C The Sharp
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is currently conducting the ‘2020 Co-Creating Value POSCO Construction × Mullae-dong Steel Sculpture Design (Steel Art) Contest’ for small metal manufacturing businesses located in Mullae-dong, upon proposal from POSCO Construction.
This contest is a great opportunity for the long-established metal manufacturing small business owners and local artists of Mullae-dong, where industry and art coexist, to collaborate with POSCO, a globally renowned steel company, creating synergy. It is being held in cooperation with the Seoul Small Business Association and the Urban Regeneration Support Centers in Yeongdeungpo and Gyeongin-ro areas.
The theme of this contest is the creation of steel sculptures that can be installed on walls in apartment lobbies or community spaces. Small business owners operating metal workshops in Mullae-dong and artists capable of steel art design form teams to participate together.
The first round of submissions closed on the 5th, and the results of the design evaluation based on creativity, suitability, and safety were announced on the 6th and 7th. Four designs selected in the first round will be produced using POSCO steel materials, and after a final evaluation considering completeness and harmony, one grand prize winner will receive 7 million KRW, and three excellence prize winners will each receive 6 million KRW.
The final results will be announced on the POSCO Construction website from the 26th to the 30th.
Additionally, the four works that reach the final judging will be exhibited at the POSCO Construction The Sharp Gallery near Dosan Park in Gangnam-gu until October 30th, alongside a photo exhibition featuring the history and local characteristics of Mullae-dong.
After the exhibition, the works will be installed in common areas such as lobbies and community spaces of The Sharp apartment complexes, allowing continuous public display.
Detailed information about the contest can be found on the POSCO Construction website and the Facebook page of the Urban Regeneration Support Center in Yeongdeungpo and Gyeongin-ro areas.
The district is sparing no effort to support small business owners by providing education to improve on-site practical skills and marketing and sales channel development to overcome the economic downturn in the mechanical metal manufacturing industry caused by COVID-19.
