Prime Minister Jeong Issues Urgent Directive to Ensure Thorough Prevention of African Swine Fever
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun issued an urgent directive to relevant ministries on the 9th to "thoroughly enforce ASF prevention measures" following the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) at a pig farm located in Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province.
The Prime Minister particularly emphasized, "The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs must closely cooperate with local governments and related agencies to ensure thorough initial quarantine measures according to the manual, including preventive culling and the issuance of temporary movement suspension orders for the affected farm and nearby pig farms."
He continued, "Conduct a thorough epidemiological investigation to quickly identify the source of transmission, and under close cooperation among relevant ministries, local governments, and related agencies, mobilize all available resources to ensure that on-site quarantine measures such as operation of control posts and disinfection facilities at key points are carried out without any gaps."
He also instructed, "The Minister of Environment should strengthen monitoring by searching for carcasses and testing environmental samples in areas near the affected farm, and focus personnel and equipment on reducing wild boar populations, removing contamination sources, disinfecting, and reinforcing fences to prevent further spread of the virus caused by wild boars."
