Telecom 3 Companies "Will Pay Attention to Retail Store Jobs"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The three major telecom companies announced that they will focus on career transition training in preparation for the expansion of non-face-to-face demand at device distribution stores.
At the National Assembly audit held on the 8th, Yang Jeong-suk, an independent member of the Science, Technology, Broadcasting and Communications Committee, questioned the three telecom companies, saying, "With the increase in non-face-to-face demand such as device self-supply, there are concerns about employment issues at distribution stores," and asked, "What countermeasures do the three telecom companies have?"
Yu Sang-young, Head of SK Telecom's MNO Business, replied, "We are preparing for career transitions as ICT consultants and managing offline distribution networks through subscription-based services," adding, "We will create additional work to generate revenue to compensate for the decrease in device sales." He also added, "However, I believe strong regulations are necessary against non-face-to-face sales turning into illegal online sales."
Kang Guk-hyun, Head of KT's Customer Division, stated, "All general agencies are registered on KT Shop, and services like one-minute delivery are being enabled for agencies to handle directly." Kang said, "The three telecom companies will work through the Online Self-Cleaning Council to help stabilize the market further."

Hwang Hyun-sik, President of LG Uplus, said, "I believe non-face-to-face demand will intensify," but added, "Considering the online share in the overall market, I do not think existing offline stores will collapse all at once. Since there is time, we will provide new business opportunities to offline stores to resolve the issue."
