Impact of Record Rainy Season... Rice Production Expected to Decrease by 3% Compared to Last Year
Results of the '2020 Rice Expected Production Survey' on the 8th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Due to this year's unprecedented prolonged monsoon season, rice production is expected to decrease by about 3% compared to last year.
According to the 2020 expected rice production survey results released by Statistics Korea on the 8th, the expected rice production this year is forecasted to be 3,631,000 tons, a 3.0% decrease from last year.
Statistics Korea explained that this is due to a reduction in cultivation area as well as the impact of the monsoon and typhoons. Rice production has been declining for five consecutive years since recording 4,327,000 tons in 2015.
The decrease in yield per unit cultivation area had a greater impact. The rice cultivation area is 726,432 hectares, a 0.5% decrease from last year's 729,814 hectares.
