[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] At the National Assembly Science, Technology, Broadcasting and Communications Committee's audit held on the 8th, Han Sang-hyuk, Chairman of the Korea Communications Commission, stated, "I believe the Device Distribution Act has contributed to securing market transparency," but also mentioned, "There are questions about whether the current system is the most appropriate. We are considering revisions and changes."
Chairman Han particularly said, "While the Device Distribution Act is meaningful in terms of strict crackdowns on illegal activities, I understand there are discussions about whether government intervention in the market is appropriate," adding, "We will strive to prevent user discrimination and ensure market transparency."

Meanwhile, the Device Distribution Act, introduced in 2014 and marking its 6th year of enforcement, is under ongoing revision discussions centered on the Korea Communications Commission. In the 21st National Assembly, debates are underway regarding its abolition (proposed by Kim Young-sik of the People Power Party) and supplementation (proposed by Jeon Hye-sook, Jo Seung-rae, and Kim Seung-won of the Democratic Party of Korea).
