Yangcheon-gu Wins Excellence Award at National Local Government Job Awards
2019: 119 Projects, 6,800 Jobs Created, Excellence Award and 90 Million KRW Funding Secured... Highly Rated for Outstanding Projects Supporting Vulnerable Groups Including Urban Regeneration, Youth Startup Center, and Yangcheon Senior Club
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) received the Minister's Award, an excellence prize, at the '2020 National Local Government Job Awards' hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, securing an incentive project fund of 90 million KRW.
The nationwide 'Local Government Job Awards' is a representative job award ceremony that selects outstanding local governments with excellent regional job policies and shares best practices. The Ministry of Employment and Labor comprehensively evaluates last year's job policies based on employment rate and job placement rate, appropriateness of business plans, cooperation systems of job-related organizations, effectiveness of job measures, efforts to improve job quality, and activation of the social economy to select the winning local governments.
Accordingly, Yangcheon-gu was selected as an excellent local government.
Yangcheon-gu is a typical bedroom community with over 70% residential areas, making job creation challenging. However, in 2019, it set a goal to create 7,231 jobs through 119 projects and achieved the creation of 6,800 jobs through 119 projects.
In particular, it focused on job creation for vulnerable groups such as middle-aged, youth, women, and seniors. Specifically, it received favorable evaluations for ▲ promoting village and market vitality through the Mok 3-dong urban regeneration project ▲ implementing the 'Nabi-nam' project for single men in their 50s ▲ establishing the 50 Plus Center and Youth Startup Center to support second employment and entrepreneurship for middle-aged people ▲ setting up the Yangcheon Senior Club to provide various senior jobs ▲ the Kids Clean Plus project supporting daycare center cleaning ▲ and establishing the Smart Yangcheon Future Education Center to nurture future talents.
Furthermore, by winning this excellence award, it secured an incentive project fund of 90 million KRW, which will be used next year to create Yangcheon-type digital new deal jobs.
