On the 5th (local time), The Boston Globe reported that a fervent Trump supporter who claimed "COVID is fake" died from COVID-19. Seven other members of his family were also confirmed positive.
Juan Chiprian (81) from Massachusetts, who usually did not wear a mask, passed away on the 29th of last month, just nine days after the first symptoms of COVID-19 appeared.
His granddaughter said, "He was the only one in the family who did not take the COVID situation seriously. He was caught up in conspiracy theories."
The granddaughter explained, "My father is battling cancer, and my mother is fighting diabetes, so even after the lockdown was lifted, I did not return to work and worked from home. My brother and uncle, who had no choice but to go to work, lived a life almost like quarantine." She added that the rest of the family had been diligent in preventing infection.
However, Juan, a fervent Trump supporter, believed President Trump's words that "there is no need to worry much" as they were.
Then, on the 20th of last month, COVID-19 symptoms began to appear in him, and seven family members, including his wife, were additionally confirmed positive. The additional infections are presumed to have originated from the deceased elderly man.
Juan's family, who were grieving a day before the cremation, became angry upon hearing the news of President Trump's COVID-19 diagnosis. The granddaughter said, "The shock our family felt upon hearing about the president's infection during the mourning period was indescribable."
Among the family, the mother said, "Many people have already lost their jobs or lives due to COVID-19. Medical staff are risking their lives to fight. I hope the political games stop now," and expressed hope that the president would step up and inform people about how dangerous COVID-19 really is.
