Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded Jointly to Black Hole Researchers Penrose, Genzel, and Ghez (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] On the 6th (local time), the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that it has jointly selected three recipients of the Nobel Prize in Physics: Professor Roger Penrose of the University of Oxford, UK; Director Reinhard Genzel of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany; and Professor Andrea Ghez of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences stated that Professor Penrose was awarded for "demonstrating that general relativity leads to the formation of black holes," and Director Genzel and Professor Ghez were recognized for "discovering a high-density supermassive black hole located at the center of our galaxy."
