Yangcheon-gu Opposes Construction of Logistics Center at Sinjeong Vehicle Depot
Urgent Call to Reassess Sinjeong Vehicle Base Logistics Center Development, Prioritizing Opposition Residents' Opinions Amid Overlapping Investments with Sinjeong 3-dong Western Truck Terminal Urban Advanced Logistics Complex and Feasibility Study on Sinjeong Vehicle Base Relocation... Development Plan to Reflect Local Conditions and Characteristics
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced its opposition to the plan to install a shared logistics center within Sinjeong Vehicle Depot, promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
At the 114th Current Issues Coordination Meeting held on September 24, the government announced the 'Living Logistics Development Plan' in cooperation with related ministries.
The announcement included a plan to expand logistics infrastructure by installing shared logistics centers jointly used by courier companies on idle land within urban railway vehicle depots in the Seoul area.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's plan, starting with the Jichuk Depot this year, a total of 10 logistics centers will be completed by 2025 at Sinjeong, Dobong, Moran, Cheonwang, Suseo, Banghwa, Sinnae, Godeok, and Gunja.
Yangcheon-gu expressed opposition to the logistics center installation plan for the following reasons.
First, there is an issue of overlapping investment with the development of the Western Truck Terminal Urban High-tech Logistics Complex in Sinjeong 3-dong. The Western Truck Terminal is being developed on approximately 520,000㎡ and is expected to serve as a logistics hub for the southwestern Seoul area in the future, making the 4,000㎡ within Sinjeong Vehicle Depot insignificant in scale.
Yangcheon-gu urged the withdrawal of redundant investment in logistics complexes and plans to actively participate in the establishment of urban logistics infrastructure promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport through the development of the Western Truck Terminal.
Second, Yangcheon-gu has been promoting the relocation of Sinjeong Vehicle Depot through long-term consultations with Seoul City, and Seoul City is currently conducting a preliminary feasibility study for this purpose.
The district holds the position that after relocating Sinjeong Vehicle Depot, it is desirable to develop the site into a cultural and commercial complex.
Third, Yangcheon-gu cited that there has been no discussion with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport or related departments regarding the creation of the Sinjeong Vehicle Depot logistics center. If prior consultation had taken place, there would have been no regret about the announcement of the shared logistics center development policy without understanding the Western Truck Terminal’s southwestern urban high-tech logistics complex plan and Seoul City’s progress on the Sinjeong Vehicle Depot relocation study.

Mayor Kim Soo-young emphasized again, “The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport should reconsider the development of the Sinjeong Vehicle Depot shared logistics center from the ground up within a consultative framework involving Seoul City and Yangcheon-gu, considering local conditions and characteristics,” and added, “The development plan for Sinjeong Vehicle Depot must prioritize collecting opinions from local residents.”
