President Moon Jae-in expressed his gratitude on the 5th regarding the COVID-19 prevention measures during the Chuseok holiday, saying, "Although it was a special Chuseok spent under a special quarantine period, the people cooperated well."
Presiding over the senior secretaries and aides meeting held at the Blue House that day, President Moon said in his opening remarks, "Screening clinics operated normally even during the Chuseok holiday, and medical staff gave up their holidays to hold the front line against COVID-19," adding, "Fortunately, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases remained in double digits throughout the holiday and showed a decreasing trend."
Seemingly aware of the controversy surrounding the Gwanghwamun barricades, which the opposition party criticized as 'Jaeinsanseong,' President Moon mentioned, "The police also did their best to ensure there were no gaps in quarantine."
He continued, "Regarding the illegal rallies on National Foundation Day, which were a major concern, we thoroughly prepared to prevent a resurgence of COVID-19 and blocked them without any gaps," and evaluated, "Citizens also endured considerable traffic inconveniences."
President Moon said, "It is also fortunate that safety accidents such as traffic and maritime accidents have significantly decreased," explaining, "This is the result of reduced movement dispersing traffic, combined with the ministries' preparations and the public's safety awareness."
He added, "Now is the time for everyone to return to daily life," noting, "The number of people traveling during the holiday reached 31 million. The special quarantine period will continue until the weekend."
He emphasized, "Although it is difficult, we must unite our strength to achieve a definite calming trend to overcome the crisis phase of spread and gradually enter a stabilization phase," adding, "The speed of livelihood and economic recovery also depends on this."
President Moon expressed, "My heart aches when I think of the people who have suffered economic hardships for a long time," promising, "We are implementing active economic measures such as the 4th supplementary budget, but these cannot be fundamental solutions. We will make further efforts."

He added, "The reason our quarantine is evaluated as a global model is because we are also performing well economically," and said, "All these positive results are thanks to the active cooperation of the people. I sincerely thank you again."
Meanwhile, Emergency Committee Chairman Kim Jong-in criticized at the Emergency Committee meeting on the 5th, saying, "The government is building a new fortress on Gwanghwamun Street," and added, "I cannot understand at all why the government mobilized massive police forces and buses to fortify the heart of the city out of fear of the people."
