Seoul City Opens Online Academy for Collective Building Management
[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 5th that it will conduct an online course titled '2020 Seoul Metropolitan Government Citizens' Academy for Collective Building Management.'
The Seoul Citizens' Academy for Collective Building Management offers lectures centered on various real-life cases by lawyers, accountants, and experts. This year's course is designed to enhance management capabilities for quasi-housing such as collective housing with fewer than 150 households, officetels, urban lifestyle housing, residential collective buildings, as well as non-residential collective buildings like commercial and office facilities.
The online course consists of 6 basic lectures and 6 advanced lectures. Specifically, the topics include ▲composition of the management committee ▲rights and obligations of unit owners and tenants ▲management committee meetings and managers ▲management committee ▲management committee regulations ▲exclusive and common areas ▲understanding management fees ▲defects in collective buildings ▲management of small-scale collective housing and officetels ▲management of large stores and commercial buildings ▲land of collective buildings, among others.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government extracted 108 frequently asked questions from citizens to be covered in the education. These 108 questions can also be reviewed in advance when applying on the Collective Building Integrated Information Plaza website.
This course will be conducted online in partnership with the Korea Collective Building Promotion Agency. Citizens wishing to participate can apply for the course starting from the 6th on the Seoul Collective Building Integrated Information Plaza website. The application deadline is the 30th of next month. Lectures will be open from the 12th until the end of December, allowing for attendance and repeated study. Those who complete the course within this year will also receive a certificate of completion from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Kim Seong-bo, Head of the Housing and Architecture Headquarters of Seoul, stated, "This academy does not limit the number of participants, and any Seoul citizen can take the course. In particular, we aim to provide opportunities to minimize disputes among stakeholders and strive to strengthen transparent management and autonomous capabilities on-site through residents' interest and participation."
