[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Jin-in (塵人) Jo Eun-san, who wrote the Blue House national petition 'Seven Proposals for the New Year,' raised his voice of criticism on the 5th regarding the government's blockade of the Gaecheonjeol rally in downtown Seoul, saying, "The politician who used to talk about freedom in front of the Myeongbak Fortress is now hastily hiding behind the Jaein Fortress, invoking public authority."
On the same day, Jo Eun-san wrote on his blog, "Under one sky, two fortresses have been built: the Myeongbak Fortress of mad cow disease and the Jaein Fortress of the epidemic. The names themselves are so astonishing that I can only slap my knee," expressing his opinion.
This appears to be a criticism of the Moon Jae-in government officials who, having criticized the Lee Myung-bak government as the 'Myeongbak Fortress' during the 2008 mad cow disease beef crisis, have now blocked the Gwanghwamun area with barricades to prevent the Gaecheonjeol rally.
He pointed out, "The candlelight citizens who trampled on the riot police and climbed over the Myeongbak Fortress to dance to cheerful tunes have now become soldiers on the Jaein Fortress, pulling the bowstrings of comments," adding, "The clowns of those days, who already had their seats taken by the soldiers' arrows, quietly disappear behind the stage, leaving only the smoke from grilling American beef lingering in the air."
Jo Eun-san then addressed Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, saying, "Back when the mad cow disease crisis was at its peak, Leader Lee shouted for freedom of assembly, protest, and expression, condemning the Lee Myung-bak government's abuse of public authority. Now, those words have found a host and transferred to me, and through this writing, they seem to have clung to the party leader, seeking their owner."
He also criticized, "Before the conservative group rally on Gaecheonjeol, Leader Lee made a sudden visit to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, ordering the strong enforcement of public authority. His Facebook was almost plastered with words like hardline, blockade, closure, control, illegal, overwhelming, and zero tolerance?words that former ruling party figures would latch onto."
He questioned, "Words like concession, understanding, persuasion, and request were completely absent, which is sad. Is this the limitation of the party leader or my own naivety?"
He continued, "This is merely a political move stemming from the arrogance of the ruling party and is close to extreme mockery of the people who have been deprived of their constitutionally guaranteed rights to assembly and protest due to the unprecedented situation of the novel coronavirus," adding, "Such remarks and actions only deepen division and conflict rather than help the current situation."
