[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] Jeong Jeong-sun, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea accused of violating the Public Official Election Act, Political Funds Act, and Personal Information Protection Act, claimed that the prosecution's request for an arrest warrant against her was "unseemly and improper." She also asserted that she has never willfully ignored summons from the prosecution.
In a statement on the 4th, Rep. Jeong said, "Since the investigation began, the prosecution has not formally requested my summons for over three months," and added, "Then suddenly, in September, when important parliamentary activities such as the national audit and budget review began, they started to pressure me to appear."
She emphasized, "I have never willfully ignored the prosecution's summons and have always submitted polite requests for postponement with valid reasons."
Regarding the situation before the prosecution requested the arrest warrant, she claimed, "Around September 18, I expressed my intention to appear on September 26 in writing," and "The prosecution replied that due to the investigation team's schedule, an interrogation on that date was not possible."
Rep. Jeong pointed out, "The prosecution reported to the media as if I had promised to appear but evaded it, saying they 'waited for me all day on September 26.'"
She added, "I fully accept the court's judgment on the prosecution's request for an arrest warrant," and expressed confidence that "the court will reveal the facts and truth based on justice."
In response, the prosecution immediately rebutted through a statement from the Cheongju District Prosecutors' Office on the 4th, saying, "From mid-August to mid-last month, we sent multiple summons requests, but Rep. Jeong refused all, citing personal and National Assembly schedules."
The prosecution further stated, "On September 21, Rep. Jeong's lawyer requested a postponement of the investigation date, saying 'Rep. Jeong will appear on September 26.' The investigation team adjusted the schedule and requested her appearance on September 26 via text message and in writing the next day. However, on the morning of September 25, Rep. Jeong submitted a non-appearance statement, saying 'I cannot appear due to a new schedule.'"
