Governor Won Hee-ryong Inspects CCTV Control Center and Yangji Park... Urges Safety in Jeju
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Chang-won] Won Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, visited the CCTV Control Center and Yangji Park on October 2, the third day of the Chuseok holiday, to inspect the COVID-19 response and operational status, urging everyone to do their best to create a safe Jeju.
At 9:30 a.m. that day, Governor Won visited the Seogwipo CCTV Control Center, received a report on the center’s operation status, and inspected vulnerable areas and the installation status of CCTV.
He also encouraged the staff working during the Chuseok holiday to ensure the safety of residents and tourists, and requested continuous attention and support from related personnel to improve working conditions.
Governor Won said, “The CCTV Control Center must now be linked not only to safety and quarantine but also to environment, welfare, and tourism sectors,” adding, “Please prepare research and support measures for the introduction of smart AI systems to solve related technical and personnel issues.”
He then visited Yangji Park, a memorial facility operated by Jeju Province, to check the operational status under the special COVID-19 quarantine measures and encouraged the staff.
Governor Won expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the Yangji Park staff who flawlessly operated the special COVID-19 quarantine measures during the Chuseok holiday, it seems that COVID-19 prevention has been perfectly maintained within Yangji Park.”
During the Chuseok holiday, Yangji Park operated a daily advance reservation system limiting the total number of visitors to the columbarium to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Accordingly, over the five days of the Chuseok holiday, 1,435 families made reservations out of a total of 4,500 families, showing a 31.9% reservation rate. On Chuseok day itself, 635 families reserved out of 900, a 70.6% reservation rate, indicating a high effect in dispersing visitors.
In addition, Yangji Park implemented measures during the Chuseok holiday such as △ restricting entry for those not wearing masks and strengthening fever checks △ closing the ritual and rest rooms inside the columbarium △ enhancing publicity through text message notifications.
Meanwhile, a total of 116,237 people arrived in Jeju from September 30 to October 1 during the Chuseok holiday period, and no new COVID-19 cases have been reported so far.
