[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] According to the Statistics Korea announcement, the number of single-woman households in South Korea reached 3,094,000 last year, showing an increase of about 1.4 times compared to 10 years ago.
Also, among the 1,529,000 single-parent households last year, female single-parent households accounted for 74.9%.
As the number of female households increases, the rates of violent crimes and sex crimes against women have also been continuously rising.
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) is promoting the "Safe! Homes" project, which supports the installation of safety home sets for single-woman households and single-mother families.
Last August, the district conducted the "1st Yeongdeungpo-gu Gender Equality Fund Support Contest" to promote women's welfare, rights enhancement, and gender equality realization. After a thorough review of project suitability, expected effects, and project execution capability, the "Safe! Homes" project was finally selected as the first gender equality fund contest project to be implemented this year.
The support targets of "Safe! Homes" are single-woman households (single-person household heads) and legally recognized single-parent mother families residing in Yeongdeungpo-gu, living in housing with a jeonse or monthly rent deposit (jeonse converted value) of 200 million KRW or less.
Only applicants who applied by the 5th will undergo a final selection meeting to confirm eligibility. For the selected recipients' homes, installation assistance will be provided for a total of five safety home set items: ▲a double-lock device "auxiliary front door key," ▲a "window lock device" to prevent unauthorized entry through windows, ▲a "door opening sensor" that sends notifications via app or text message when the door is opened from outside, ▲a "portable emergency bell" that sends messages to acquaintances and the police station even when the battery is dead, and ▲a "digital video peephole" to check visitors indoors. The support contents may vary depending on the recipient's housing type and environment.
The application period is until the 5th. Applicants should refer to the notice on the "Yeongdeungpo-gu Healthy Family Support Center" website, complete the application form and additional submission documents, and submit them via email to the person in charge (ydpfc@daum.net).
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Yeongdeungpo-gu Healthy Family Support Center or the Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Childcare Support Division.
