Since August, the Geumcheon Community Self-Sufficiency Center has been operating the ‘Clean Factory’ self-sufficiency team, piloting a free laundry service that collects and delivers laundry for the elderly to improve their living and hygiene conditions.
The district plans to officially operate the laundry support service starting with the ‘Borin Housing,’ a public one-room housing tailored for elderly living alone introduced in collaboration with Seoul City and Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH). From 2021, the service will be expanded through consultations with welfare institutions such as welfare centers and senior welfare centers.
Seonghoon Yoo, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, “The laundry support service will not only help maintain the hygiene of the elderly but also serve as the foundation of the Geumcheon-type welfare delivery system by regularly checking on the elderly and connecting them to necessary welfare services. We will continue to expand support so that not only elderly residents of Borin Housing but also all elderly residents of Geumcheon-gu can benefit.”
